Yuga Labs Settles NFT Lawsuit

Yuga Labs has settled its lawsuit with artists Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen, who were accused of copying its Bored Ape Yacht Club cartoon ape images and selling lookalike NFTs. As part of the settlement, Ripps and Cahen are permanently banned from using Yuga Labs' imagery and trademarks. They will also transfer control of the smart contracts, domains, and any remaining NFTs associated with their RR/BAYC project to Yuga Labs within the next 10 days. The settlement marks a significant victory for Yuga Labs in its efforts to protect its intellectual property. The company first filed the lawsuit in June 2022, accusing Ripps and Cahen of profiting millions from the sale of lookalike NFTs. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of protecting intellectual property in the digital art world. A formal dismissal of the lawsuit is expected in the coming weeks, bringing an end to the long-running legal battle. The outcome of the case may set a precedent for future disputes over NFTs and digital art, and could have implications for the broader crypto and art communities.
